Boogers are not a snack.

Yes, I actually said that to my child today....I'm going to let you guess which one.

Many thanks to H2F for taking BB shoe shopping today. From what I hear they had a great time and BB came home with 2 really cute pairs of sneaks. Apparently moms are very fashion-backward and therefore I could not go shoe shopping. I guess I'm off the Fashion Police Force. I wonder if I get to keep my badge.

Random thought. I was talking to a co-worker in the elevator yesterday, and the idea came up of how cool it would be to write a story about an elevator. I'm thinking it would be a story about an elevator that opened up somewhere other than where you expected it to, or maybe one that opened up to a different time in your life (past or future). If you've heard of such a story, let me know, I'd love to read it. If not, start writing - I'm waiting!!!

H2 and H2F were over the other night and H2 was holding Molly. She had a "diaper eruption" that ended up with stinky stuff all over H2's shorts. Needless to say he went home soon after (hopefully his car doesn't still stink). He came over tonight and Molly walked up to him, pointed at his shorts, and said "I pooped on your shorts." and started laughing! That's my girl!!!

I was talking to SIL(H) about the books I've read recently, and I made a list of the "keepers" - the ones I liked enough to buy and keep. Wow - I've read a lot of good books! Some are series that have been around a while and some are new. I may make mention here in the future about some of my faves....coincidentally, the men in my lair are reading the Sookie books. Sookie is NOT a ho.

Little Bits

The last few days have been a blur.....

Today at Walmart as I was perusing the peanut butter, Molly turned to the lady standing 2 feet away, pointed right at her and said "She has crazy hair!". After I finished waiting for a hole to open up and swallow me (it didn't), I grabbed the peanut butter (don't ask what kind - I don't remember) and continued on my way. In Molly's defense, said crazy hair WAS crazy - curly magenta hair, piled about a foot high on her head. My future fashion police recruit!

Yesterday, Molly went to grab a juice from the fridge, dropped it and said "shit!". J said, "What did you say?" and she replied, "I dropped my juice." Good save Molly!

Lastly, BB comes into the living room singing that old Poison favorite "She's my hairy pie..." eh, not quite. After J and I got up off the floor from laughing too hard, we gently explained that's not really a proper phrase for a young lady to use.

Eat me indeed.

Pajama Jammie Jam*

*House Party (1 or 2, can't remember which)

It's almost 8:00 and as I sit here, unwashed and still in my pajamas I put on last night, I am debating on whether to shower and put on new pjs or just say the hell with it....

Molly has been warm the past 2 days, but Tylenol seemed to be doing the trick. Last night she started with the "barking cough" and spent most of the night coughing/crying/rolling around in our bed. I took the day off from work and stayed home with her, gave her a few breathing treatments, and here we are. Tomorrow I think I'll give her a treatment and send her on her way.

Ian's first PT is tomorrow. The brace shop called to say his new ankle brace is in so they'll do that tomorrow too. Speaking of Ian, I recently found out he had more sake on Saturday night than I've had in my entire life! He left his pain pills at home so apparently my brothers took pity on him and gave him 3 cups of sake AND several swallows of plum wine. Who says kids in N.O. start drinking early? I'm sure that's just a rumor!

Have I mentioned that I spent all my B&N $$$? Yes, all $245! I bought a bunch of books in the store, then ordered books online. One of my orders has already come in and I expect the next two orders to be in Monday - I can't wait!!! I bought several books I'd already read but don't own and want to read again, a couple of books I had read good reviews on various blogs, and one or two that just caught my eye.... I need a real bookshelf for my bedroom now. A few of the ones I bought I'll probably donate to the library, but most I will keep.

I'm looking for a babysitter volunteer so J and I can go watch StarTrek. Any takers? Hours of fun with a cranky baby and all the diapers you can change!!!

Sake Power and Sucky White Rice

Well, J is gone. H1 and SIL(H) are gone, and I am home in my pj's watching the rain. Had a great weekend, went to the French Market with H2 and H2F and her family, then to Mass and then to dinner at a local hibachi place. The kids had fun and the chef was awesome!

Weird note to the weekend - I dreamed about work Friday and Saturday night. Bleh.

And they all lived happily ever after.....

First of all, congratulations are in order for H2 and H2F (fiancee, formerly girlfriend)!!! The proposal was very sweet and I'm so glad she said yes!!! I'm so excited I'm getting another sister! And congratulations too for graduating the police academy - yesterday was a HUGE day for you! (jumps up and down clapping hands and grinning)

Ian update - we took him to see the orthopedist yesterday. He's going to start PT next week (2x/week for six weeks) and he's getting a fitted ankle brace to go with his knee brace. He's still on crutches and will be for a while. If, after six weeks of PT there is not much improvement he will talk about surgery on the nerve.

BB and Molly are truckin' along. Currently they're drawing a chalk outline of SIL(H) in the backyard. Molly is the official "catepillar alert" because she's crazy scared of them (you know - the hairy stinging ones) and yells "pa-pe-ya, pa-pe-ya" over and over until you acknowledge that you see it - even if it's smooshed and dead...

J is going out of town tomorrow for three days.... :(

And hopefully my B&N birthday book order will be in when I get to work on Monday!! :)

The best laid plans...usually end with you in a hospital.

Well, here's how I envisoned today:
Wake up to children saying sweetly "Happy Birthday, Mom!", dropping the girls off at school while J takes Ian to his orthopaedic follow-up. I continue on to my mani/pedi, then my choice of shopping (alone), movies (alone), museum (alone), bookstore (alone), or some combination of the above. I know, not very imaginative, but still.
So, here's how today played out:
Wake up to children saying sweetly "Happy Birthday, Mom!", dropping the girls off at school while J takes Ian to his orthopaedic follow-up. I continue on to my mani/pedi....at which point J calls to tell me they're admitting Ian. As I had just finished with the nails and the place was blocks away from the hospital, I headed straight over. From what I understand, and I'm getting this info second-hand, I have not been in the room while the doctor was there....it sounds like the way the ER doctor put Ian's splint on pinched a nerve - 10 days ago. Then, when I called for an appointment for May 4 as instructed by the ER, they wouldn't give me an appointment until today, May 11. Poor Ian has had no feeling in his foot and can't raise his foot upward. Apparently the doctor is concerned because there has been no blood flow to the lower leg. So, today we watch the leg and it's covered in ice and my poor baby is on IV morphine. Tomorrow they either decide what they did is working, or turn to surgery to remove the pressure. THEN, after that issue is over, they decide what to do about his torn ACL (which was also not mentioned in the ER).

J is staying at the hospital with Ian and I am taking care of the girls at home until I get them back to school and then I'll be back at the hospital.

I must also say a huge "Thank You" to Mom and Dad for the wonderful birthday brunch at the Court of Two Sisters on Mother's Day. I've heard of the restaurant but never been and it was all I thought it would be - fabulous!!

Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes!

Garden of Good and Evil

As I said before, the pond looks pretty good right now, and as Molly-Moo demonstrates, it's a nice place to hang out. Good work J!

A lion, a lamb, and a werewolf walk into a bar...

I stumbled across this today, and decided H1 and SIL(H) need it for their ceremony in June. FAWESOME!!!!

Cinco de Fango....

It's here!!! The next Sookie book came out today! I went and picked it up at lunch today. I'm only on page 50 but so far it's great! (I know I'm a bit biased.) AND, SIL(H) sent me these True Blood Season 2 peeks...FAWESOME!!!

To celebrate Cinco de Mayo I had Vietnamese for lunch - yum! My fortune cookie read "come back later, I'm sleeping". WTF?

Luv is in the air

I was thinking today about what an awesome husband I have. He really is a wonderful man. After almost 17 years I'm still in luuuvvvv. He still does things that make my heart flip-flop (I said my heart - get your mind out of the gutter. You know who you are.)

With that in mind, I thought I'd write a list of things I love. I'm not including the obvious - My husband, family, friends, God, my country. This is a totally material list, in no particular order:

My car. It's a 2004 Saturn Vue - blue, 5 speed. It's so much fun to drive, after 5 (or 6?) years I still love it!

My bed. It's a cherry 4-poster canopy bed. Everytime I get into it I sigh with happiness. It's the perfect fairy-tale bed.

Our back yard. When it looks good - like it does now, it's beautiful. Flowers blooming, the fish are in the pond and the garden is well-kept. I love walking past the windows just to catch a glimpse of the yard, and eating outside is like being in a park.

My job. After two years, I still love it. Sometimes I'm bored to tears, sometimes I'm confused as hell, but I love it. Yes, I stress when I'm not billing enough hours, but I'm pretty sure that's normal.

Trips to Houston. I've never had a bad one. It's a quick, short ride with a great payoff - a true mini-vacation. Can't wait for the next one!

My wedding ring. After almost 17 years I still think it's beautiful and love to wear it, not just because I'm married to an awesome husband!

My blue glass collection. Something about looking at the blue glass is soothing.

My vampire books. I know - nerd alert! But they make me happy.

So, that's my short list. If I sat a bit longer I'm sure there would be plenty for me to add, but for now that's what you get. A challenge to my fellow family members - what's on your list?

Laser Drag

When I got home from work last night, J told me Ian was in bed because he was going out with friends last night to play laser tag from 11pm - 2 am. I stayed up until midnight with J, then went to bed. He woke me up about 1am to ask me if Children's was still the Emergency Room we would use for Ian. WHAT??!! Apparently someone pushed him and he fell while twisting his leg and foot. They don't think it's broken but he's got a splint, knee brace, and crutches. We're suppposed to take him to the doctor on Monday to get a better idea of what's up. (See Ian's blog for more details)
You know what this means, right? J and I are going to have to take out the trash ourselves!
