Home Depot Sucks Like A Porn Star

So let me tell you what happened after my last blog post.

First a little history about our original trip to Home Depot: When we bought the toilet, the first one we looked at didn't have any "insides" at all, even though it clearly stated on the box that it did. So we asked the HDG (Home Depot Guy) and he said "well, you could buy them". J very politely asked why we would buy them when they're supposed to come with the item? "I dunno, because they're not there?" was HDG's response. Big help. So we found a box with "insides", grabbed a toilet seat (why they don't come with a seat has always puzzled me) and some tubing-like stuff and home we went.

After J got up from his nap he started working on the toilet. He started on the valve-thingy and realized he needed a new one, so he sent me to Home Depot. I had our old valve with me so I'd know what to get, but there were still a lot of choices, so I narrowed it down to 4 valves and bought them all because the store was closing and I knew I wouldn't be able to go back that night. I get home, J looks at them all and opens the box of the size he needs. Wouldn't you know it's used. It's very clearly been tampered with (glued or puttied or something at the connection) so we can't use it.

While I was out at the Home Depot, J had taken the old toilet out and put the new one in. There was just one problem. The toilet is a Pegasus brand, the "insides" that came in the (already opened when we bought it) box were Glacier Bay brand. Which means the handle doesn't fit. THEN, we take the toilet seat out of the box to install it, and BOTH of the hinges that connect the lid to the toilet are broken off. WTF?

So now we get to go back to Home Depot to return all this shit, which of course they are never gonna believe we didn't break. In the meantime, we're a family of 5 down to one bathroom. Let me tell you that really sucks in the morning.

You need to document all this and send a letter/email to HD headquarters.

Wow. That really sucks. And after such a great weekend. I would only assume that if the guy selling the stuff had such a "whatever" attitude, the person at the returns counter will probably be the same way. Obviously they let it slip by the first time these used parts were returned.

Thank you guys for everything you did for us this weekend. We really had a wonderful time. Blogs and pictures to come. Hee Hee.

I agree with Dad, write a letter and send it to corporate AND the BBB. See if that don't get a reaction. Bastards!

Kinda makes my lamp situation seem not so important. But still....she was a bitch!

I have wondered that about why the toilets do not come with seats either...I guess a big CEO type figured out they could make MORE money that way.

Hello!! Did you ever think that it could have been other customers that are destroying that merchandise, or returning used stuff to get over on them. They sell around 30,000 different items. Do you think they are going to open every box in the entire store to make sure its not broken?

Oh, and by the way, toilets don't come with seats because everyone has a different preference for seats and including it would raise the price of the toilet. Would you like to pay more for something you don't want?

Here's the thing...I wouldn't expect HD to open and inspect every box, EXCEPT when it comes to returns. If someone is returning a defective item, it needs to go back to the maker, not back on the shelf. And if there are 7 toilets on the shelf, and 6 of them are open and missing parts, and the employees solution is to suggest that I buy the parts that are supposed to be included, then that IS a problem.

AND, I know I'm not the first (or last) person who came home with a new toilet, only to realize I have to go back to buy a seat. I'm just sayin', include a plain old seat. If you want something fancier, then you can buy it.

I feel you. i work returns at home depot and i get back so much broken and already used stuff it's rediculous. and i open everything i return! i do agree with anonymous though, a few customers do like to use their auger to un-clog their toilets and then try to return it like they think i'm a fucking idiot and won't know it's used. "oh yeah it came that way" yeah and you'd buy something that smelt like a port-a-potty? no. those kind of people are the people that make your home depot experiences bad, not us. we're just doing our job.

Call a gentleman by the name of Harley Finnell. He is the Regional Merchandising Manager and a bulldog. If nothing else he can share your concerns with the district manager on the associate and can call it up the chain to the Corporate office. He loves to do that.

So sorry you had such a bad experience...Home Depot like any retailer has problems...make sure you call the store and speak to the manager about your experience...feedback is the only way things get corrected...and there is a customer care line that will usually send you a letter along with a coupon for 10% off. I know it doesn't make up for your bad experience, but most of us associates do care about our customers!! Thanks
