Goonie Love

The kids were watching Backyardigans last night, and the little creatures ended up in a cage, a "booby trap" if you will. Well, let me tell you - Bridget and Molly had a field day for hours with that phrase. A fly on the wall would have heard "booby trap" mentioned at least 100 times. Molly ran around the house grabbing her chest and yelling "booby trap" until someone (anyone) would catch and tickle her. Really, really cute.

Here's the thing - remember the movie The Goonies? Molly sounds just like that Asian kid - Data whenever she says it. (grainy video here)

I am using the Jedi Mind Trick on you...right now.

Here's the deal - I (heart) Richelle Mead. I've loved her Succubus series, and now I'm totally on the Vampire Academy wagon. I'm so jealous of other bloggers who've been to her signings (so, so jealous!). Well, she put up a poll on her blog of where she should go for a signing - she'll go to the top 3 cities - AND NEW ORLEANS IS ONE OF THE CHOICES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm begging you - if the city you live in is not on the list - please go to her site (link conviently located below) and vote for New Orleans. If you don't give two shits who Richelle Mead is - please click the link and vote for New Orleans. If you value all that is wholesome like springtime and puppies and walks in the park - please click the link and vote for New Orleans!!! We never get any authors here - they all go to Houston or Atlanta. Think of it as doing your part to help in the recovery of our economy after Hurricane Katrina (Oh, yes, I just went there!!!).

All I'm saying (begging) is: CLICK IT!!! (and vote for New Orleans) And I read on her blog she just got engaged (Congratulations Ms. Mead!) and what city is more romantic than New Orleans, really?

Poll: Where would you like Richelle Mead to visit?
(Of course, I would never advocate voting from your home AND work computers. Nope, not me.)

Is it Monday already?

The weekend went by quick! LSU and the Saints won (woo-hoo!). I didn't actually watch either game this weekend (although I did listen to part of the Saints game at the grocery store).

We finally bit the bullet and got Molly's bed. We went out and looked at a few, picked the one I saw online, a matching dresser, and a new dresser for BB. They're supposed to deliver it all on Saturday which is pretty damn good, in my opinion. The trip home from the furniture store went something like this:

Molly: I want my big girl bed.
Me: The men are going to bring it to our house.
Molly: Oh....I want my big girl bed.
Me: It won't fit in the car, honey. The men have to bring it in a big truck.
(repeat 75 times)

J finally got his wedding ring back from the jewelry store, all repaired and gorgeous. Now I don't have to pee on him before he leaves the house anymore!!! (you know, to mark my territory...okay, maybe a few too many paranormal romances? Nah.) And he bought me a beautiful ring I've had my eye on for a few months - what a sweetheart! He's not even making me wait for Christmas!!! Thank you baby!!!

Musical Maladies

This morning, driving in the car on the way to school, a song from Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou? came on my Ipod - Down to the River to Pray. I love this song, it's very soulful and beautiful. Bridget started complaining and I told her that I liked the song and she'd better not complain through it or I'd play it again.

The lyrics go something like this:

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the starry crown
Good Lord, show me the way !
O sisters let's go down,
Let's go down, come on down,
O sisters let's go down,
Down in the river to pray.

Then it repeats with small changes about 4 more times.

After the 2nd verse, Bridget groans loudly: "Well that's just great - now I know the words!" and started singing. Mwahahahaha!

Hey Bartender!

There is a half-full case of Heineken on the island in my kitchen left over from Sunday. Last night went something like this:

Molly: I want that.
Me: No, honey, that's drinks for grown-ups.
Molly: I want to be a grown-up.
Me: Grown-ups go potty in the toilet.
Molly: Oh. I don't want to be a grown-up.
.
.
Ian: I go potty in the toilet. Can I have a beer?

Too bad ladies, I've got the husband of the year!

I had a really, really bad day at work today. Nothing I did was right. Everything I touched turned to mud. Okay, maybe not literally but it sure felt like it.

I came home, hubby asked about my day, and I let it all out, and out, and out. And he listened, and listened. Then, when I was done, he said "I'm sorry you had a bad day." No unwanted advice about how to make it better, no platitudes about how "it's not as bad as you think". He listened, and that's what I needed.

Thank you baby, I love you.

All about nothing update

For being so busy all week, I can't think of a single thing I did. I feel like I didn't have much free time. I did manage to go to bed before 11:00 twice, so that's good!

Went to the French Market with the girls yesterday, that was nice. I picked up a couple of nazars (left). They're some sort of Turkish or Greek talisman to ward off the evil eye. The guy in the French Market says his come from Turkey. I saw them there a couple of weeks ago and thought they were cool (I collect blue glass), then they appeared in a book series I just finished, soI took that as a sign and picked up one for my car, one for my bookshelf, and one to wear as a necklace.

Now we're getting ready to have a housefull of people for the Saints game. Lots of good food cookin', and the Saints are predicted to win. It doesn't get much better than that!

Full Circle

When I originally started this blog, I was tired all the time. I had a six-month-old baby who liked to stay up at night. I would blog while I held her or fed her. It was better than watching TV, which sucks in the middle of the night. Now that she's almost three, the sleep-through-the-night issue is not so big anymore, unless she's sick or it's Wed/Sat morning and the garbage man is in front of the house. ( I think I've mentioned my lack of love for the garbage man here before)

Now, however, I am sleepless again. I stay up so late and it's all my fault but I can't help it - it's books! I'll tell myself "just one more page/chapter" or "just 10 more minutes" but then something exciting will happen and I keep going, and going, and going...

I'm an eight-hour-a-night kinda girl, and for the last few months it's not happening. I'll go to bed at 11:00 or midnight and get up at 5:15 (okay, maybe 5:25) to get ready for work. Every morning I tell myself, "No books - tonight I'm going to bed early" but by the time evening arrives my nose is in the book and I tell myself "Read now, sleep tomorrow".

I had started wondering recently if the title of this blog was no longer appropriate, but on days like today (zzzzzzzzzzzz) I know it still works.

Happy Birthday Hannah!!

video

Happy Birthday Hannah - since we couldn't be with you, I'm sending you birfday luv from Lil' Bit...

Yeah, yeah, yeah...I know she's shirtless, but you know my motto: Pick Your Battles. Plus, given her current boobie infatuation, it's kind of appropriate!

(btw - I'm putting your gift in the mail tomorrow. Sorry!)

Show Me Yours Saturday

I posted this on my book blog, but since it's New Orleans-themed, I thought I'd post it here too:

I heart Book Gossip has started a new meme: Show Me Yours Saturday.
Here's how it works:

Each weekend try to post a Show Me Yours. It can include a favorite food to something about you. Show me the deets and I will show you mine. Key word is show: So show us some snazzy pictures not just words.

This week I decided to give you a bit of Mardi Gras. I love Mardi Gras - I love to look at the floats and listen to the bands. And of course I love the throws! Everyone knows about the typical image of Mardi Gras - drunken frat boys and girls showing boobs. Is that part of it? Sure. But it's not the whole story. Here is a tiny snapshot of my Mardi Gras Loot.

We have bags and bags of those cheap plastic beads they throw from the floats. Everyone around here does. They probably should have used them to shore up the levee instead of sandbags. These are not those beads.

These are cheap plastic beads with ceramic medallions attached or incorporated into the beads. They're a bit more difficult to catch or talk a float rider out of. Each krewe has it's own beads each year, and then each float will sometimes do it's own special beads.

If beads are not your thing, they also throw all kinds of other stuff: food, dolls, balls, frisbees, comic books. Usually they throw these to little kids or hot chicks. Sometimes they take pity on old ladies.

My favorite throw is the glass beads. In the past, pre-1960's or so, they threw glass beads. Then, until about 5 or so years ago, they only threw plastic. On the left are some of the old beads (I actually took these with me when I evacuated for Katrina), and below are some of the newer ones:

So, that's a tiny glimpse into my Mardi Gras Treasures. If you've ever thought about coming for Mardi Gras but think it's all drunken revelry, think again and come on down - it's the Greatest Free Show on Earth!

In anticipation of Sunday night....

Living in a Barbie World

Last night, Molly discovered that Barbies have boobies! The look on her face was priceless...total amazement and joy. Of course, she had to undress all her sister's barbies and show me they had boobies. My brother and his fiance came over and she had to show them the boobies. She even pointed out to the fiance that one barbie had "big boobies" and the boy doll had "boy boobies".

Help me Baby Jesus, save me from the Naked Barbie Brigade!

(although, anything that keeps her quiet and occupied can't be THAT bad, can it?!)

Advice for Life

Still feeling bleh. Did manage to go to the jewelry store and the paperback book store. The book store was awesome - they had tons of books and took all my trade-ins. I had to laugh though, the store was sectioned into genres - sci-fi, westerns, mysteries, and novels. Guess what novels was? Yup - all romance. And novels took up half of the store! I got some good stuff though, and J even picked up a couple of books. Didn't get Molly a bed - that sort of turned out badly, will try again in about two weeks when we go to pick up the ring at the jeweler.

Molly's got the same cold I've got. Last night, we're sitting together, and she won't let me wipe her nose. She keeps wiping her fingers under her nose and then putting them in her mouth - gross. So this is what I told her:

"Molly, We don't eat our boogers and we don't poop on ourselves."

No one's ever accused me of handing out bad advice.

Bleh - It's a four-letter word.

I'm sitting at my desk at work, feeling my head cold work it's way into my chest, wondering why in the hell I didn't call in sick today. Oh, I know why - I love paychecks! I think if they x-rayed my head right now it would look like the inside of a pillow.

Going to check out a new paperback book store with J this weekend, I'm really looking forward to it. Ian is going to babysit the munchkins...what a good son! We're also going to get J's wedding ring fixed (so my "bond" will be visible - oh crap, too many paranormal reads I guess), and go shopping for a bed for the littlest princess.

If I can come to work feeling like this, I can certainly go shopping feeling like this! (and I don't have to put on makeup to go shopping = win!)

Oh, and J is getting his motorcycle back today -and it runs! I am so happy for him, he's missed his baby.

Bosom Buddies

So, my brother and his fiance came over Sunday night to watch True Blood. They came a bit early, and were hanging out, when Molly crawled up into Fiance's lap, grabbed a handful of boob (she's quite large chested), and announced "My mom's got boobies." Then, she gets down and proceeds to name every member of the family and announce that they, too, have boobies.

Why, oh why, couldn't she be this intersted in the potty?

(There was no way I was gonna google an image for "boobies" while at work - that's just asking for trouble!!)
